In the run up to Christmas, some of you may have missed the news about Dr. Laura.
Most of you know who Dr. Laura is, but for the few who don’t, she’s the right-wing radio talk show host in the US. She believes strongly in the concept of “family values”. In other words (to loosely paraphrase Chinewrde), cock and cunt good, everything else is bad.
Well, just before Christmas, Dr. Laura’s mother was found dead in her California condo. It appears that her mother had died two months previously and no one noticed! The cause of death hasn’t been determined. It would seem odd that a woman who so believed in “family values” wouldn’t notice that her mother was missing. However, Dr. Laura (her doctorate is in kinesics) put the blame on her mother. According to a statement issued on Dr. L’s behalf her mother had distanced herself from her family. Dr. L also added the toss away line that it was sad that her mother died alone.
The uncharitable among us might wonder if the mother distanced herself from her children because she was embarrassed by their beliefs? Nonetheless it seems typically uncharitable for the good doctor to put the blame on this lonely death on her mother. It would have been classier to say nothing, but then, some do have careers to defend.

I'm amazed this post has been so completely ignored in this forum. In the UK site there have been many replies, not all of them relevant as usual, but, as this is a very 'Canadian' thing, I would have expected at least, a few more than this.
A belated Happy New Year to you all anyway.
