Guys,
Guyslink is firmly committed to building vibrant online communities for gay guys in all countries - and, if you click on the UK flag below, you'll see that we have already achieved precisely that, in the UK, where over 200 guys make regular use of our discussion messageboard, posting nearly 150 messages every day.
But, we would very much like to achieve the same in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States, because such a messageboard community has immense value. As well as providing a 24x7 forum for chat, it enables guys to swap ideas and experiences, share problems and to make good friends on and off the net. In the UK, members of our community organize regular social get togethers, and several guys are now in long-term relationships with partners they first met on this messageboard.
To help things along, we provide one of the most advanced messageboard systems available on any gay web site. Regular contributors to our discussion forums are awarded a special status which means that their nickname is protected against impersonation, and they are also given their own private mailbox so that they can send private messages to other regulars. This applies equally for Guyslink members and non-members alike, so membership registration is not required. Over the years, we also accumulate message archives, so that it's possible to refer back to valuable discussion topics - and these can be found using keywords, by means of our search facility. Our messageboard system also remembers which topics and messages you have already read, so that on each visit you can easily see from the coloured lights what has been posted since you last visited.
In this forum, we also have a very easy-going policy about the types of messages that should and shouldn't be posted. That policy says that provided a message is not abusive, menacing, homophobic or illegal then it's allowed, so intellectual discussions are fine and so is informal chat about a TV program, movie, hobby, sport, political crisis or just about anything else.
But, our techology and our policies alone are not enough. The one remaining ingredient is people like you, who are needed to form part of our online community.
I realize that many guys are reluctant to post messages on a quiet messageboard. They wonder what is acceptable and what is not, and whether it's worth making the effort and taking the risk. This makes it particularly difficult for any messageboard to get started and gain momentum, but if this messageboard never gains momentum, it is a lost and wasted opportunity.
If you have anything at all to say, now or in the future, on any topic at all, I would ask you to make a contribution by sharing your thoughts. Alternatively if you have a group of friends who are on the internet and you'd like somewhere to chat informally amongst yourselves, please consider making this messageboard your home.
I am sure you visited this page in the hope of finding something interesting to read and possibly to respond to. But the only way we will populate this board with interesting materials is if everyone contributes something! And only then will we stand a chance of establishing a community here to match the one that already exists in the UK.
You need only click "Start a new topic" at the top of the screen, to make your own contribution. Alternatively if you have anything at all to say about any existing topic, please don't hesitate to add your comments to the reply form at the end of the topic.
Dave
